Nextdoor Marketing for House Cleaners: What to Post (Without Feeling Salesy)
- Feb 28
- 8 min read
If you run a house cleaning business – or really any local service business – you probably already know this:
The hardest part isn’t the work itself. It’s getting in front of the right people consistently, without feeling spammy or spending hours staring at a blank screen.
Nextdoor should be one of the easiest ways to do that. It’s literally where your neighbors go to ask:
“Does anyone know a good house cleaner?”
“Who do you use for lawn care?”
“Any recommendations for a reliable handyman?”
But showing up there regularly, with thoughtful posts and replies, is a lot harder than it sounds.
That’s exactly why I created two tiny, low-cost tools:
Nextdoor Marketing Prompt Generator
Booked Solid on Nextdoor ~ Prompt Pack for House Cleaners
Each one is just $7, and they’re designed to quietly sit in the background and make your marketing easier every single week.
Let me walk you through why they exist and how they help.
Please don’t skip the Q&A Section, the end of this blog. This section is very helpful and useful.
Why Nextdoor Is a Missed Opportunity for Most Service Businesses
Most local business owners I talk to say some version of:
“I know I should be posting on Nextdoor… I just never know what to say.”
So they do one of three things:
Post once, feel awkward, and never go back
Only show up when they’re desperate for bookings
Avoid it completely and hope word-of-mouth is “enough”
Meanwhile, their ideal customers are right there, talking, scrolling, and asking for recommendations.
The good news: you don’t need a huge content strategy. What you need is a simple, repeatable way to:
Introduce yourself
Share helpful tips
Tell a few client stories
Make gentle offers
Respond to comments and DMs like a human
That’s it.
The Real Problem: “What Do I Say Today?”
Even if you love your work, it’s normal to feel stuck when you sit down to write:
“How do I introduce my business without sounding braggy?”
“How do I offer a special without feeling pushy?”
“How do I respond when someone comments or messages me?”
This is where prompts come in.
Prompts are simply smart starting points you feed into ChatGPT (or another AI tool) so you’re never starting from scratch.
Instead of brainstorming from zero, you plug in some details – and get a clear, neighbor-friendly post or message you can tweak in a couple of minutes.
Tool #1: Nextdoor Marketing Prompt Generator ($7)
Think of this as your “prompt to create more prompts.”
The Nextdoor Marketing Prompt Generator is a master meta-prompt you use with ChatGPT. You fill in a few details about your business, and it generates a whole batch of tailored prompts just for you.
Here’s what it does for you:
Asks ChatGPT to act like a local marketing strategist
Uses your business details:
service type
your name and business name
your main offer
your ideal clients
your neighborhoods
your preferred tone (friendly, professional, etc.)
Then it tells ChatGPT to generate multiple custom prompts you can use for:
posts
comments
private messages
If you’re someone who likes to customize and have a whole library of prompts that feel tailored to your cleaning business, lawn care, pet sitting, real estate, or any other service – this generator is for you.
Use it once, and you can literally spin out dozens of prompts in a single session.
Tool #2: Booked Solid on Nextdoor ($7)
The Booked Solid on Nextdoor is for you if you want something even simpler and more plug-and-play - prompt pack for house cleaners.
You get done-for-you prompts for:
Neighborly introduction posts
Helpful tip posts
Limited-time intro offers (without sounding spammy)
Before-and-after story posts
Testimonial highlights
Q&A “ask me anything” threads
Seasonal / weather-based posts
Community / giveback posts
Referral request posts
“We’re still here” re-engagement posts
Plus:
Bonus prompts for replying to comments
Bonus prompts for DMs and gentle follow-ups
You just:
Fill in the blanks (like [SERVICE_TYPE], [CITY/AREA], [BUSINESS_NAME])
Paste the prompt into ChatGPT
Copy the result, tweak a few words if you want
Post on Nextdoor
You don’t have to be “good at writing.” You just have to be willing to fill in some details and show up.
“Can’t I Just Post Whatever Comes to Mind?”
You absolutely can.
But here’s what usually happens when we wing it:
Posts end up sounding either too “salesy” or too vague
We repeat ourselves because we don’t remember what we said last month
We stop posting entirely when things get busy
These prompts are there to:
Keep you consistent
Keep you sounding like a real neighbor, not an ad
Make sure you cover the basics: intros, tips, stories, offers, follow-ups
For the price of about one takeout meal, you get a little system that keeps working for you every week.
Who These Prompts Are For
These tools are ideal for:
House cleaners and home organizers
Lawn care and landscaping businesses
Handy-people and home repair services
Pet sitters, dog walkers, groomers
Mobile detailers, pressure washers, window cleaners
Real estate agents, home stagers, interior painters
Any local service where your ideal clients live nearby
If your business relies on neighbors finding and trusting you, these prompts were built with you in mind.
How to Use Them Together
You don’t have to choose one or the other – but you can.
Here’s a simple way to think about it:
On a tight schedule and just want posts now? Start with the Nextdoor Prompt Pack. It’s literally copy–paste–fill–post.
Want ongoing ideas tailored to your specific niche and style? Add the Nextdoor Marketing Prompt Generator so you can keep generating fresh prompts over time.
Many people will grab both:
Use the Prompt Pack to get your first 2–3 weeks of posts done quickly
Use the Generator to keep creating new prompt ideas as you grow
Either way, you’ll spend less time thinking “What do I say?” and more time actually serving clients.
What You’ll Have By the End of Today
If you decide to grab one (or both) of these $7 tools, here’s what you can realistically walk away with in a short session:
A set of ready-to-go Nextdoor posts that sound like a helpful neighbor
A simple rotation you can reuse:
intro post
helpful tip
story/testimonial
gentle offer
Clear scripts for replying to comments and DMs without overthinking every word
No complicated funnels. No paid ads. Just more thoughtful, consistent presence in the one app where your neighbors are already asking for someone like you.

How often should I post on Nextdoor to actually see results?
A: Think of Nextdoor like showing up in a neighborhood room—people trust what they see repeatedly. Start with 2 posts per week for 30 days.
Your simple rotation is: Intro → Helpful Tip → Story/Testimonial → Gentle Offer.
You’re building familiarity, not “going viral.”
What do I post if I’m not a “content person”?
A: Perfect—Nextdoor isn’t for content creators. It’s for helpful neighbors. Post what you already know from real work:
“3 things I always do in kitchens that most people miss”
“Quick bathroom checklist to keep it fresh all week”
“What a first-time deep clean usually includes” Teach first. Then your service feels like the natural next step.
How do I introduce my business without sounding braggy?
A: Use this teacher formula: Who + Where + What + Who it helps + Invite questions.
Example: “Hi neighbors, I’m [NAME] with [BUSINESS]. I serve [AREAS]. I help busy families keep their homes consistently clean with [SERVICE]. If you have questions about pricing or what’s included, feel free to ask.”
What should I say when someone asks, “Any recommendations for a cleaner?”
A: Reply like a pro, not a commercial: 1–2 sentences + clear next step.
Example: “Hi! I’m [NAME] with [BUSINESS]. I serve [AREAS] and specialize in [MAINTENANCE/DEEP CLEAN/MOVE-OUT]. If you want, message me your zip code and the size of your home and I’ll tell you availability and a price range.”
What if my posts get no likes or comments—does that mean it’s not working?
A: Not at all. Nextdoor is not Instagram. Most leads come from:
DMs
recommendation threads
people saving your name and coming back later Your job is to stay consistent for 2–4 weeks, keep your posts clear, and respond fast. Quiet posts still book clients.
What do I say when someone DMs, “How much do you charge?”
A: Don’t guess. Ask 2–3 quick questions, then give a range.
DM script: “Thanks for reaching out! To give you an accurate price, what’s the bed/bath count, about how many sq ft (if you know), and is this a deep clean or maintenance? After that, I can give you a clear price range + next available times.”
What do I say when someone asks, “Do you have availability this week?”
A: Offer specific options so they can choose fast.
DM script: “Yes—this week I have [Day/Time Option 1] and [Day/Time Option 2]. What area/zip code are you in and what’s the bed/bath count? Once I confirm that, I’ll lock in your spot.”
What do I say when someone says, “Can you give me a quote?”
A: Make it easy: give them two quote paths (quick vs exact).
DM script: “Absolutely. Quick question—do you want a fast estimate or an exact quote?
Fast estimate: bed/bath + type of clean + any priorities
Exact quote: same info + a few photos (kitchen + bathrooms) Tell me which one you prefer.”
What do I say when someone asks, “Do you bring your own supplies?”
A: Answer clearly and reassure them about preferences/sensitivities.
DM script: “Yes, I bring my own supplies and tools. If you prefer eco-friendly, have allergies, or want me to use specific products you already have, just tell me and I’ll follow your preference.”
What do I say when someone asks, “Are you insured?”
A: Be direct. Trust is the whole point on Nextdoor.
DM script: “Yes, I’m insured. If you’d like, I can share the basics of what’s covered. Also, before your first clean, I’ll confirm your priorities and what you want included so everything is clear.”
