You Don't Need Fancy Marketing Materials to Start Your House Cleaning Business
Maybe you're thinking:
“I don't have money for professional flyers, fancy business cards and a beautiful website yet.”
Okay.
Then don't start there.
When I started my house cleaning business, I used what I had.
I made homemade flyers.
I used my own creativity.
I printed things myself.
And I went out and marketed my business.
The goal was not:
“How can I make myself look like a giant company?”
The goal was:
“How can I get my business information in front of a homeowner who may need my help?”
That's different.
Start With Something Simple
You could use:
a homemade flyer
a postcard
a simple business card
a door hanger
or another simple printed marketing piece
It does not need ten paragraphs.
At minimum, people should quickly understand:
Who are you?
What service do you provide?
What problem can you help solve?
What area do you serve?
How can they contact you?
That's enough to start.
Your Marketing Doesn't Have to Look Like Everybody Else's
I always liked finding little ways to make my business materials feel different.
That does not mean you need to spend a lot of money.
Maybe you use:
a different shape
a seasonal message
a simple ribbon
your own handwriting
a clear headline
a picture of your actual work
The point is not:
“Be weird just to get attention.”
😂
The point is:
Give people something they may actually notice and remember.
You Can Even Make a Simple Seasonal Postcard
Yes.
A postcard.
You could write something like:
Busy getting the house ready for holiday guests? I provide local house cleaning in [your area]. Call or text [your name] at [number].
Simple.
You could print it.
Or depending on what you are making, even use your own handwriting to give it a personal local feel.
Again:
Clear beats fancy.
Add a QR Code
Today, one little thing can make a basic business card or flyer much more useful:
A QR code.
That QR code could send the homeowner to your:
Google Business Profile
Facebook business page
website
booking/contact page
or another business profile
Then someone can see more than what fits on the card.
They may be able to look at:
pictures of your work
reviews
your contact information
services
business hours
Your little piece of paper becomes a bridge to your online business.
Your Offline and Online Marketing Can Work Together
Imagine this:
Someone sees your flyer.
They do not call immediately.
Instead, they search your name online.
They find your business profile.
They see:
“Okay. She's local.”
They look through some photos.
Maybe they read a review.
Then they contact you.
That's why I don't look at:
Offline Marketing
and:
Online Marketing
as if they always have to fight each other.
They can work together.
Don't Wait for Perfect
This is the part I really want beginners to understand.
Do not spend six months thinking:
“I can't market until my logo is perfect.”
“I can't start until my website is perfect.”
“My business cards don't look expensive enough.”
Meanwhile?
Nobody knows your business exists.
Start with something clear.
Use what you can afford.
Improve it as your business grows.
Your Small Business Move
Take the marketing material you currently have.
Maybe it's:
a flyer
business card
postcard
digital flyer
Now check four things:
Can someone tell what I do in a few seconds?
Does it explain one good reason to contact me?
Is my phone number or contact information easy to find?
Can I connect it to an online profile or page where they can learn more?
Fix one thing today.
Not the whole design.
One thing.
Then put that marketing material to work.
Final Takeaway
Your marketing material does not have to look expensive.
It has to do its job.
Get noticed.
Explain the service.
Give someone a reason to care.
Make it easy to contact you.
Start simple.
Then improve as you grow.
Happy Business! You Got This!
